UN condemns killing of blue helmet MONUSCO

08 May, 2013 - The Secretary General of the UN condemned in the strongest terms the murder of a blue helmet Stabilization Mission of the United Nations in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) occurred when unknown attacked the convoy he was traveling in South Kivu.

In a statement, Ban Ki-moon said that killing a member of the peacekeeping forces of the UN is a war crime that falls under the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court.

Ban urged the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo prosecute those responsible and announced that MONUSCO has already begun an investigation into the attack.

Holder UN sent its condolences to the family of the victim, who came from Pakistan, and the authorities of that country.
